Cash for Culture
What could be better than a night out at a concert or play? Going free of charge! To encourage interest in arts and culture, Italy’s government is giving 18-year-olds 500 euros (about $545) to spend on books, museum tickets, and other cultural items and activities.
All Italians born in 1998 are eligible for the money, which they can spend until the end of 2017. An app called “18app” will create vouchers, which teens can then exchange for tickets to cultural events. More than 500,000 Italian teens are eligible for the culture bonus.
If a movie ticket in Rome costs 8 euros, could a teen use the 18app to watch one film every week in 2017?
