On January 28, musicians will celebrate the 60th Grammy Awards! It’s the music industry’s biggest honor, and the ceremony has come a long way since the first awards in 1959. Back then it was called the Gramophone Awards—which is why the awards look like an antique record player.
More than 20,000 industry professionals vote on the nominees each year. The cutoff date to nominate artists was October 1, 2017. This means some of the year’s biggest albums, like Taylor Swift’s reputation, which was released in November, won’t be winning any awards during the ceremony on January 28. But never fear—they’ll be eligible in 2019!
